Namaskaram- a good exercise

Well.. i had just been to the guruvayoorappan temple and attended the karkada masam bhagvathi sevai... wow!! it was such a wonderful experience.. the way devi was decorated.. the yummy nei payasam... and then namaskaram session!! one of the best exercises i have experienced.. i did 21 namaskarams ( all of a sudden without any practice) and Oh my God!
initially did it with all josh and.. then got a bit slow towards the end and managed to complete the session.. did not realize what kind of rigorous exercise i had done..reached home and slept off. Next morning i could hardly feel my leg.. it was really painful as soon as i got up.. and then when i stretched my legs.. i could feel the effect of last night's exercise.

We dont realize how simple everyday routine can be a good exercise. May be our ancestors did not know the significance or the scientific reasoning behind it but they used to do namaskarams everyday. Traditionally, women do only “panchanga” namaskaram .A “panchanga” namaskaram is where generally a woman kneels down with palms joined together or touching the feet of the revered one in front. A woman does not do sashtanga namaskaram for the following reason. There is an injunction in the scriptures that the womb and the breasts of women should not touch the ground. They ruled that the part of the body which sustains the growth of the foetus during pregnancy and the part that creates within itself the nourishment for the new born and feeds it, should not be allowed to come in contact with the groun. The act of namaskaram symbolises the humility and respect and melting of ego. Any action done with the right thought and feeling behind it, in turn, enhances and enriches that experience.

So let us all namscarichify God almighty as a symbol of respect and humilty at the same time reap the benefits of the exercise!
